BEWARE: ADDICTIVE !
I have a soon to be 19yr old cat, who was going down hill rapidly 2 1/2 months ago. He has been on the famous brands prescription renal diets (canned and dry) for the past 5 years although he was in very very early stages of renal failure...maybe stage 1. He was on the food because I had 4 of his siblings and all had varying degrees if renal failure. The other 3 have passed in the last 2 years....from cancers, not renal failure, so I'm left with one. Although renal food may cause a loss of muscle mass which is sad to see, it did control or stall the renal failure. My boy has several medical problems so when he started failing, getting him to eat became impossible causing him to lose even more weight ...to skin and bones. He was only in Stage II of renal failure due to the strict diet. It really upset me seeing him lose weight almost daily. I would pet him and only feel bones. On my last vet visit, in addition to adding another medicine, the vet said give him anything he wanted to eat in order to keep the liver working and get him to gain weight. He was really on the edge of giving up and he was so weak. I decided to try Weruva Phosphate controlled food. OMG....the cat hasn't stopped eating this after the 1st taste!! He devours this food. It seems to be a very clean protein quality food. It's not cheap, but neither are the ingredients, but neither was the prescription food which had less quality ingredients in my opinion. In the past 2 months, he has filled-out and now I do not feel a boney old cat, but an elderly cat with nice coat and appropriate weight. He was 10.2 lbs earlier in the year, then a few months ago went down to 7.9lbs. He is now 9.2lbs. That's a lot. This food says it is only a supplemental feeding, not for all the time, because it is very low phosphate and doesn't meet the FDA cat food requirements. So I have ordered the regular Weruva also, the lowest protein I can find, and add a phosphate binding powder to the food (important for renal failure treatment). Hopefully his next blood test and renal values in 3 months, will look okay after giving him this food for several months. By then he will be 19 yrs old. All I know is that this food saved him at the time, and gave him something delicious to eat again. He demands this food now....and for now, I'm happy to give him the calories he loves, although I may have an impossible time if I have to go back to a straight prescription renal diet.

Don't buy this great product from Amazon
I have ordered this item several times for my elderly cat with kidney disease and have been happy with it. Last ordered on April 24, 2025. Product description makes no mention of it not being returnable, Listed in my orders is says this item "eligible for return through 5/24/25. Today is 5/5/25 and I have been at the computer for over an hour trying to return it (completely unopened in box.) All I get is the message that it is unreturnable and to contact customer service. That is impossible. You just come back to the original return screen with the same outcome over and over. There is no response to a request for a phone number and no screen to send an email. Product is great, but don't order from Amazon. Find another source such as Pet Supplies Plus.

Good product, horrible packaging!
She likes it, hey Mikey! But, the packaging from Weruva is so cumbersome. It is SO BUSY. It is hard to understand what in the heck I am buying. They REALLY need to run that by a consumer panel. My other cat loves only some of the flavors, so I would like to get in a different variety, like Pate or junked... But I have no idea how to translate from one to the other. My cats do NOT like the "hydrating fluid" don't know what that is, but all 3 turn up their noses.

Makes my older cat happy
My cat the minute opened the cat she was meowing for it. Quality looks great, no stomach issue my cat hasn’t had no problems. She loves it that is all that matters.

My cat threw up
My cats love the Weruva BFF OMG good. Especially the one with IBD goes crazy for that stuff. But not only did she refuse to eat this Phos WX ,(aimed at sensitive guts), when she finally reluctantly ate it for lack of other options, the chicken and tilapia mix made her throw up so badly within minutes. She ate the chicken one but wasn’t happy about it. I offered the chicken/tilapia mix to the feral cats outdoors and even they refused to eat it lol- I think finally a raccoon took care of it. Would not recommend.

CKD cat likes the wet food and enjoys meal time again
We switched over from the yucky Forza10 ActiWet Lamb Lung and Pork formula (ew). My cat hated that stuff and I needed a new low phosphorus food for her. I got her to finish 32 packs of that goop before we started weruva. That food was beneficial but disgusting. The first day trying this new food, things went great. I was surprised how wet this pate is. I don't have to add gravies or water to her food or mix it with fancy feast to get her to eat, great. It doesn't smell fierce when I open the cans. It is totally pureed chicken/tilapia/fish rather than a yucky jelly looking blob. Unfortunately, on the third day of trying this food, my cat still vomited. Could be acid build up, nausea, stress etc. We have tried the Rx renal food and that was a failure also. For my 8 lb girl, I give her half a can for breakfast and half a can for lunch and half a can for dinner. Sometimes, she can only eat a half can worth the whole day. Other times, she asks for seconds after she has finished a can. I oblige happily. It's been hard to get her to gain weight and keep her appetite up. The wetness and tenderness of this pate makes a big difference. Her litter box activities have improved. She sometimes has constipation but the high moisture food wil help. She is more hydrated and not peeing out all the water in her body all day long. She has access to a water fountain that she loves. To my ckd parents, stay persistent and you will see improvement. When we found out she had ckd, we switched away from Orijen kibble and went completely to wet food. She vomits more with kibble, cant explain why. Change the portions, feed heated meals, add friskies Lil gravies, use the kidney support gold supplement, add probiotics, and have fresh water around daily. Nausea is a big reason our cattos don't like the food. My pickiest eater loves lapping up the weruva variety pack, on her good days.

Must be tasty
My cat is super picky. She likes the taste and smell. It's from WeRuVavwhich is a company I can trust for high quality food. My girl likes it so it's definitely worth the money.

Not So Impressed
My Renal girl who will usually eat anything does not like these foods. I tested her with the chicken first and she didn't want it then with the Chicken and Tilapia, she ate some but not all and then I started mixing it with regular canned cat food and she eats it most of the time. Since this is low phosphorus food, I started adding Phos-Bind to regular food and making it a low-phosphorous food BUT, be very careful how much you use because Phosphorous is a VERY IMPORTANT nutrient for cats but from what I read too much phosphorous is considered one of the reasons why cats have Renal failure so I've found a way to reduce it by binding the phosphorous so it's less but not complete removal. Summary: I won't be buying this food again. These special foods are very pricey especially if they don't eat it.
