They look like size C but it says size A cell? So what type of batteries are these?

They are very small. Probably half the size of a AA battery in length.

Are these the same as LR14 1.5V batteries

Googling doesn’t suggest they are compatible.

Will these work as replacement for 4SR44 batteries?

LR44 are alkaline, SR44 are Silver Oxide but both are used for the same thing. I use these in my Canon A1 camera and they're fine. If you were to disassemble these batteries you will find 4 LR44 batteries in series giving the 6v.
