Hilarious book
What a lovely book! I love that thereโs more going on than the words alone suggest. My toddler absolutely adores it.

Weird but funny
Strange and funny story. My 8 year old boys found the illustrations funny. Didnโt really get the end or the purpose of the story. Nice for bedtime and provided some talking points.

My 'book of the moment' to use with classes!
Wonderfully original! A great example of the illustrations saying so much more than is contained within the actual words. I have used this with Year 1-Year 4 classes and all the children LOVED it! After setting the scene at the beginning the reader of the story then needs do little more than just read the words verbatim & keep a straight face when turning the pages; the children have no problem in getting the message, or in realising that the dog is the one with the brains!

My two kids (3 and 6) both love this and delight in pointing out how the boys have only just missed the treasure. It is a simple enough story that the 6 year old can also read it to her brother.

Classic read
This book is amazing for kids aged between 4-10. My 10 year old loved it and especially talking about what they think happened at the end. Great discussion points and illustrations tell as much if the story as the story (without giving it away) a classic.

Great book for 4 / 5 / 6 year olds
Great for 4 / 5 year olds and probably beyond. It's a bit more of a thinking book in some ways.

Hilarious and Charming
Sam and Dave Dig a Hole is one of those books that adults enjoy just as much as the children they are reading it too. Sam and Dave, feeling rather bored, decide that today is the day to dig a hole. They are not entirely sure what they will find, but they know that it will be amazing. Mac Barnett is one of our favourite children's authors and the deadpan tale does not disappoint. The visual humour is absolutely wonderful. As much of the humour relies on understanding visual comedy, I recommend this book for the 5+ crowd who will delight in yelling at Sam and Dave as they take wrong turn after wrong turn. Highly recommend!

Awesome Sam and Dave! Room 19 March Madness Winner!!!!
This book is good for all readers, it has really good humor. The illustrations are spot on. We especially loved how the dog was always right and had a keen nose. This book was very creative and inspirational, the characters worked really hard. We really enjoyed the emotions and expression of the characters. The descriptive language was really great!
