Ideal coffeemaker for single people with busy schedules and average tastes
This coffeemaker is ideal for a certain type of coffee aficionado who must have a morning cup of coffee every day, but who doesn't have gourmet tastes and is more interested in reliable coffeemaker function. I have owned an espresso maker and coffeemakers made by Krups, Faberware and Mr. Coffee, and this is the machine I have come back to most often. I did go through a phase of grinding fresh coffee every day and using unbleached cone filters exclusively, but I didn't notice enough of a difference to make the extra work worth it. Since then, my morning routine has been to use commercial ground coffee in either a basket or cone filter brewed fresh every morning, immediately followed by plain hot water for a 20 oz. mug of decaf tea to load up on fluids early in the day. I use the coffeemaker for 2 or sometimes even 3 more mugs of decaf tea later in the day because I get thirsty more often than hungry. With this much daily use, I've been pretty hard on coffeemakers, and I prefer to buy durable and reliable brands like Mr. Coffee rather than complicated and expensive machines that would wear out sooner. The 4-cup size of this machine is perfect for a single person who brews several cups of coffee a day. It's also an ideal water heater for tea, instant soup and oatmeal when boiled water is too hot and inconvenient. I've never thrown out one of these coffeemakers because it wasn't working; the reason was almost always because the hotplate is chipped and corroded, which happens with all models I've owned. I've never used a programmable coffeemaker because I don't want coffee to be brewed automatically when I sleep late. If your tastes are more towards fancy espresso drinks and exotic coffees, you'll probably find fault with this machine. But if your tastes are plain and you are more concerned with reliability than special features, this is a machine with solid performance that you can trust.

I love this little guy!
What a pleasant surprise! I bought this just a month ago to replace my Bonavita Connoisseur that suddenly up and died one morning (didn’t see that coming), and after a few hours of research, decided to replace it with a smaller coffeemaker. And I found it; this simple little machine does everything I need: makes great coffee, perfect temperature, easy-to-clean, and takes up precious little counter space. For just me — single guy, living alone — this little Mr. Coffee is perfect. And considering the low price, I even like the way it looks: smart, sleek and almost elegant in its understated simplicity; one would think a machine this inexpensive would look and feel kinda cheap. But no! It’s gloss black plastic finish is stylish, understated and attractive. Sure, no timer, no programming, but heck, I don’t need or want those complications. Finally, there’s the little things. Like how you can fill it with water from EITHER side, meaning a lefty like me can easily fill it from the left side. If you’re considering a small, simple and well designed coffeemaker, I can highly recommend this one.

Nice, clean, basic coffee maker... however...
In use now for about 2 wks... "The good"... easy, clean function for a '4x cup'/personal coffee maker. "The not so good"... it seems that the industry has migrated toward safety and has designed coffee makers to brew at about 180-185°F, and with heat losses through the grounds in the carafe, produce only about a 165-170°F result. Though the warmer works fine it seems it would take a long time I expect to provide piping hot coffee that I have been accustomed to for MANY YEARS in the Melita 4-cup I replaced with this unit, and at 2 other 12 cup brewers I currently own. Of course a long time on the warmer is not good for brew quality thus a simple 30 seconds in the microwave right after 'run through' takes care of that problem... just an inconvenience. Also, out of the box the tab/lock holding the lid shut during brewing has a bit of molded plastic part 'interference' problem... but after getting another brand of brewer a few weeks prior, found that it had a similar problem... one that is solved by using a 'touch' of veggie oil on the lock mating surfaces and 2 hands to open the door to prevent possible damage to these parts. This loosens up enough I feel with several uses. An additional line in the instructions or maybe a different latch design could improve on the problem I encountered... on both brewers. All said, I would recommend this brewer for the simplicity, function and price.

Small footprint, maximum grounds capacity, perfect for one person with high caffeine tolerance.
This is a great little coffee maker that takes up an absolute minimum amount of space, both in terms of counter top footprint and headroom if it's going under a cabinet. I had the Mr. Coffee with the schedule timer options but found that since I never used the timer option and all I wanted to do was press the 'on' button as I stumbled out of bed in the morning, it was actually too many buttons to sort through and peer closely at in a bleary morning fog, so I opted for this "Simple" brew - no mistaking what button to press no matter how out of it you might be. I'd never use the timer feature because I wake up when I'm rested, which is different times every morning - and don't want the smell of coffee waking me up like an alarm clock. So what else is superior about this coffee maker.... the large capacity basket filter easily holds 1/2 cup of coffee grounds (4 full 1/8th scoops). Yes, I like my coffee EXTRA EXTRA strong. I also had a different 4 cup brewer which I'd gotten (like this one) due to its ultra compact size, but it had a cone shape filter that took #2 filters - and it would only hold 3 large scoops of coffee grounds before it would overflow over the filter and get grounds in my weak coffee. I went through disappointing weak cups of coffee with Keurig and various other coffee makers until I finally landed on this little Mr. Coffee., I make a full four cup pitcher and it's JUST RIGHT for my morning. If anyone else wants any I'd make another brew.

This is a very basic coffee maker, though it does have a pause-and-serve feature. I like its clean and simple look and its small footprint. It brews quickly, though quite noisily. Two notes of caution: I have had 3 of these machines over the past several years, and they seem to last an average of about 4 years; also, there is no automatic shut-off, which is not important to me, but which might be to some.

Our family previously used that other name brand using the "pods" and found the Mr. Coffee brewed an excellent cup of coffee. No need to run to the store and buy the pods when you run out. Simply buy the beans, grind them and brew yourself and great cup of coffee. Less expensive as well. Mr. Coffee brings out a fresh aroma and very hot. We now have 2 of them, one on reserve. Presently we have had this one for over 2 years. Thank You Mr. Coffee
