In 40+ years of baking I've never come across a better stand mixer
I had a $500 KitchenAid stand mixer that I used for a little over a year, and after making a small batch of bread dough the gears broke. I'm an avid home baker, and I needed something tough and reliable that wasn't going to wimp out right after the 1 year warranty expired like the KitchenAid did. This Bosch has mixed everything from bread dough, cake batter, cookie dough, and whipped cream to perfection. The splash guard works great, it gives me easy access to add ingredients instead of moving the tilt head multiple times. The motor isn't as noisy as the other stand mixers, and this baby has more than enough power to mix the stiffest doughs with ease. I have found it much easier to clean than other stand mixers, but what impresses me the most is how powerful it is. I've been baking for 40+ years, and I've never come across a stand mixer that can outperform this. It was an expensive investment for me but it's worth every penny. I highly recommend this!!

For those that love to bake!
I have had this machine for over a year now and here is the verdict. The Bosch Universal has become my best friend when it comes to making bread....and lots of it! (For my family and friends that is) It is a true workhorse and great investment! Wish I got it sooner I am 69 and my KitchenAid was having fits. It is so much easier for me to handle too.

Well thought out mixer, a refined version of the original Universal. Good for 10lbs of dough.
I ordered this to compare to my vintage Bosch (the original version of this mixer) from the 70s. This is pretty similar to that old Bosch with the following improvements: -suction cup feet so the mixer doesn't walk around (or off) the counter while kneading dough -a bowl with a lip to surround the lid ring (this prevents the lid from popping off on large batches) -the bowl edge is turned down like a little umbrella which gives improved gripping for transport The motor of both the old and new is of similar power. I find it to bog down more than I prefer with large batches (above 7 lbs) of dough. I've made up to 5200g (11.2 lbs) of dough in this mixer and it will do it but it's a strain on the motor. One other drawback (or advantage depending on how you prefer to proof your dough) is that this mixer really heats up the dough. It'll go from 65 or 70F up to 110F in 7 minutes of kneading. I personally prefer to keep the dough at room temp. A work around is to add ice to the water to knock the temp down before hand. So, although I don't like the heating, it's something that can be dealt with. I will be returning the mixer and instead ordering a stainless bowl for my old Bosch mixer. I believe it may help with this heating issue. Additionally, it does away with the center column for a little more space for dough (about 200 additional grams). I ordered this mainly to compare and see if it was worth upgrading. I think the refinements are probably worth the price difference. But I instead am going to put that cost difference toward a stainless bowl and the drive/dough hook to match ($350 new just for this bowl and accessories!). I'd used a 1981 Kitchenaid by Hobart for years and although an excellent mixer, the Bosch is also good product with a proven long lifespan. The Bosch can make 2x the amount of dough and the lid system is a lot cleaner than the open bown of the Kitchenaid. I highly recommend ANY Bosch Universal Mixer!
