Yes, it comes with a key. When it's closed, it's locked, you have to use the key to open it. But you don't have to use coins to make a call, it's just a fun feature. It is cool looking on our wall, we like it!

Im sorry, but I have no idea. I would contact the manufacturer and ask them the specific type of cord used to see if it is compatible with Australian phone outlets. Good luck!

Q: Do the touch tone number buttons light up?

No, they don't light up. It includes 0-9 and the # and * keys. They're all touchtone. It's not rotary. And the coins collect at the bottom, which is opened with the two keys they provide. It's a very nice phone and a conversation piece as well. You'll need a plug and phone jack for it to work.
