Haimer 3D Sensor, Inch Version Item Package Quantity: 1 Number of Items: 1 Review: Pricy yes - but so worth it. - Beats the crap out of a wobbler. I love I dont need to run the spindle to get my edges. Review: If you're thinking of getting one of these - do it, you won't regret it. - This is one of the most expensive single items I've bought for my mill, but it was absolutely worth it. This and the tool touch off have saved me hours of time in getting my tools and work-piece setup. The one tool does x,y, and z registration, and you don't have to worry about forgetting to compensate for the offset from a regular edge finder (which used to stress me out). Now I can quickly dial my tool heights in without the need for a paper shim and the height setting is always perfect. In retrospect I should have gotten the one that comes attached to a CAT 40 tool holder because I have a collet tool holder dedicated to just this anyway, but I am very happy.

Do not buy from this seller
You can see from the picture how they selling items!!! The shank is 10 mm, it's not as described 3/4 shank. I asked for replacement and they gave me the date for 2 months after. Really??? What I'm going to do until to get a new one?

so neat!
WOW! even before putting this on a collet, I thought....Man, this is cool! I have put this on several machines now, and the largest difference I have seen on this and amy machine/tool holder combo........is 3/10ths (of a thou). This item is no slouch for a purely mechanical 3D dial indicator. I'm amazed!....I got a friend to buy the larger previous model, He loved it too! So much, that he forgot to take it out of the machine and spun it up to 6K RPM..... His model did not survive.... It exploded! So, overall. great device, accurate and honest...... You gust need to treat it as an antique from the future that will explode if you spin it!

Huge time saver, but be extra cautious with the tips...
It's so much faster to zero and tram my work in in my VMC... Seriously quick. I then re did all my tool offsets so that all of my tools are offset wrt this indicator and have a dedicated tool holder for it. Combined with a Z-setter, I was able to calibrate a dozen or so tools in about ten minutes. That said, it took less than 2 hours for my operator to break the tip off... I mean, I guess that's good that it protected the tool.. but it does suck that the tips are so expensive to replace.
