OXO Good Grips Melon Baller

two sizes of scoop. my most frequent use when I cut an apple in half and use the melon baller to remove the seedy part of the core. works great! my old cheapo melon baller eventually failed because it rotated in the center handle. I have 100% confidence after using this one for a year that it will stay intact. Also, I have bought at least 10 OXO kitchen tools and OXO is my favorite brand. Everything I've ever purchased from OXO works well and has good build quality.

Intuitive to use but I still viewed a YouTube video. Fast learning curve. Never used this device before but mom’s knives are dull (long story) and this item seemed safer to cut fruit. Bought a personal sized watermelon and a dragon fruit (red skin white fruit inside). Super fast! The entire melon was cut up in less than 10 minutes, same with dragonfruit. Will be using this butter on cantaloupe honeydew green kiwi …..I have an apple corer, but one of the photos here showed a half apple with its core cut out with this cutter. Good to know. The edges are sharp so don’t think it’s a dull edged ice cream scooper. Oxo is my go to brand now that I’m older and arthritis is kicking into my hands. Durable! Grip is awesome, handle is not too long, and I like the smaller size too especially for dragonfruit or kiwi

Good, but I feel like I was hoping for a slightly different design with the scoops.. (I really have to twist my wrist to get that ball.) Additionally, I think the scoops are very close in size and I could go for the larger one being slightly larger.

I wanted to make a fancy fruit salad so I bought this item because I wanted a really good product and read the reviews. Okay, I never made round melon ballers ever and am embarrased to say I did it wrong the first time, but had a chuckle after I watched a video on how to do it. Well, I made a small frog watermelon and put the fruit inside its mouth. I used this took correctly this time and it was so much fun doing it and looked fantastic. Goes to show you, that you can learn new things at any age, yes ....I am not young. Love this tool.

Reviews of the other melon ballers on Amazon say they break because they can't stand up to the strain. I use my OXO melon baller exclusively on apples, the hardest customers. After rinsing, first I cut the apple in half. Then I use it the melon baller to get rid of the stem area and the bottom fuzzy navel -- the two spots that have the highest concentrations of pesticides. Next, into the center to cut out the seeds. According to the Great Oracle -- Artificial Intelligence, when the body detoxifies the cyanide in the apple seeds, it uses up beneficial sulfur in the body, which is otherwise used for hair, skin, nails, and maybe other stuff too. So after a lifetime of crunching apple seeds -- so almond tasting, I got the OXO melon baller to help me stop doing that. The smaller of the two spoons is just right for removing the seed area of apples. I recommend Honeycrisp. There is no sign that the OXO is being stressed or that it won't last a long time. It's probably best to choose this one. ... Just a satisfied customer.

Solid and easy to use. Nice melon balls.

I grow a lot of zucchini and yellow squash in my basement, and now and then I harvest large ones that are great for stuffing. This larger end of this melon baller works so much easier for hollowing out the squash rather than the spoon I used to use. Since the piece between the two scoops is rubberized, it's easy to hold and doesn't get slippery from the juices of the fruit or vegetable you are scooping. I don't see this melon baller being helpful in removing seeds from peppers or tomatoes, as membrane of peppers should also be removed, and the smallest scoop is to large to remove seeds from tomatoes. It may be useful for tomatoes if you want to hollow out the whole tomato including seeds. This tool is very useful for removing seeds and the stringy pulp of winter squash and also for removing seeds from fruits such as papaya, cantaloupe, and similar fruits. If you are looking for a tool that will create perfectly round melon balls, I don't believe this tool would work. The part of the melon that is in the bottom of the scoop will be round, but but the top of the portion scooped most likely will not be round. My purposes for this melon baller are to hollow out large zucchinis and yellow squash for stuffing, and to remove seeds and stringy pulp from the winter squash, such as acorn squash, spaghetti squash, etc. and fruits like papaya. For these purposes, this tool is perfect and makes these jobs so much easier. I hope this review was helpful for you.
