Yes the switch is centre off and it does have to be held in the up or down position, it does not lock.

Q: Are there any simple fitting instructions please?

yes, but it mainly depends on the configuration of your receiver box or motor, The easy way to do it is 1) up wire from your door/receiver box to the top hole of the unit (number 4) 2) down wire from your door/receiver box to the bottom hole of the unit (number 3) 3) common wire from your door/receiver box to the middle hole of the unit (number 5) 4) fit a link wire from 5 to 2 i hope this helps? colin
