Issurin's Block Periodization gives an easy layout to understand the deep subject of block periodization. He lays out each layer of the process of developing the annual or 4 year plan for the athlete. He gives you everything from how to create the year plan, to the block setup, to the weekly, and daily breakdown of your training. He also explains the idea of using residuals to move from one block to the next. There is a lot of great information in this book for anyone who wants to learn more about this type of training.

Through the years of acquiring new knowledge through personal research, journals, books, and the countless interactions with doctors, sport scientists, strength coaches, athletes, and trainers, you begin to see the big picture in regards to what is meaningful, and what is minutia.  This also applies to the knowledge that targets the improvement of the training process.  There are many resources that are published every year that target sports enhancement, but every couple of years there is a resource that significantly improves the state of the sports training literature.  Dr Issurin's Block Periodization is one of those resources.Dr. Issurin's book details his approach to block periodization in a very thorough manner.  Throughout the book, it clears up any questions one may have about the doctor's version of the block model.  Additionally, Dr Issurin provides many additional topics that help one layout a successful block sequence such as key-workout characteristics, compatible training modalities, training residuals, sample micro/macrocycles, etc.I give Dr. Issurin's book the highest possible review, and believe this is one of those meaningful texts that will provide a great addition to anyone's library.

Talks a lot, says little.  This text provides very little usable information for a coach.  Anyone familiar with traditional periodization could simply substitute the word "block" for "mesocycle" and save some $.
