The Traditional Chettinad Cookbook is a collection of memories: of family celebrations, colourful food and wonderful aromas. Chettinad food is a mirror of Chettinad culture, colourful yet quiet, spicy yet not fiery. Lastly it is steeped in tradition, but still not afraid of accommodating and accepting acquired tastes. The book is encyclopaedic in its depth and content, a record of both easy, everyday recipes to the more complex, exotic fare served during special occasions. Each recipe has been tried and tested, and the sample menus show how they were combined to provide a sumptuous and wholesome meal. Simple step-by-step instructions ensure that even first-time cooks find the recipes easy to follow, and the glossary at the end of the book provides easy reference to those unfamiliar with the Tamil vernacular names for various ingredients. Neatly divided into chapters and sorted according to type and preference, the book caters to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Beautiful hand rendered illustrations capture the soul of the Chettiar kitchen, bringing to life the storerooms and the traditional and unique cooking tools and utensils. The entire Chettiar culinary repertoire has been compiled into eleven chapters containing 276 recipes accompanied by photographs and illustrations. Chettinad cuisine is a part of living tradition, a tradition that is slowing giving way to microwaveable meals and pre-cooked food. With its uncomplicated format and detail, this book hopes to rekindle an interest in traditional home-cooked food.

Wonderful Cookery Book on the Cuisine from the Chettiars of Tamil Nadu
I bought my 2020, 2nd reprint of "The Chettinad Cookbook" here on Amazon from Adipoli Books. The shipment was fast via FedEx International from Uttar Pradesh, India. The book itself is wonderfully put together. I only spotted minor typos, e.g. not spacing after a period. Or forgetting to insert a line break (paragraph break) between the list of ingredients and "Method."These are minor and don't affect the recipe(s) to the best of my knowledge. Why should you consider buying this book? The book is self-published by M.Rm.Rm Cultural Foundation by the sisters (duo authors)โMeyyammai Murugappan and Visalakshi Ramaswamy. If you perform your own research, you'll find the authors have tremendous authority and credibility on Chettinad cuisine. They are considered "custodians of Chettinad cuisine" or "doyennes of Chettinad cuisine.""The Chettinad Cookbook" offers a comprehensive selection of heritage recipes, ranging from simple, everyday dishes to intricate, exotic fare typically served on special occasions. Each recipe has been meticulously tested, and the provided sample menus demonstrate how they can be skillfully combined to create sumptuous and nourishing meals. The inclusion of selective food photography seals the deal. I don't expect my cookery books to have pictures of every recipe; however, I do expect food photography as a method of encouragement and inspiration for me to actually cook from the book. One of the best regional Indian cookbooks from the Chettiar community of Tamil Nadu, India. Highly recommended purchased from the professional Amazon Marketplace seller Adipoli Books.5/5 Stars buying experience. The condition is brand new as expected without any major cosmetic damages to the cover, back, and spine of the book.

Where is the index?
I really dislike when a recipe book is just arranged thematically and does not provide a comprehensive index! Usability suffers badly!

This is a fascinating cuisine and this is a better cookbook for my tastes than the more widely available Chettinad cookbook that is more focused on higher end dishes. I have that one too.
