The Simmons LRF 600 is a no frills rangefinder suitable for targets out to 600 yards, and does not have weather info nor does it have tilt/angle capabilities. I use it mainly to gauge distances for my drives, or to estimate the distance to the center of the green. I don't really have a need for the high-end golf specific range finders.I verified that the LRF600 is precise to under 1 yard compared with Google Maps data (which is based on GPS but is static). I know the laser is definitely more precise than GPS as GPS relies on numerous satellites and its accuracy changes based on conditions. The benefit to using a GPS device or smartphone app is that you can see the overlay of the course. However, I intended to use the LRF600 as a tool for gauging distance, and it does the job perfectly well.The LRF600 uses a standard 9V battery, which is my only complaint. The 9V battery clamp is tight and it was hard to swap batteries. The battery door also requires the use of a coin to loosen the screw. I wish it used AA or AAA batteries which are more common and I could at least use NiMH rechargeables. The 9V NiMH rechargeables don't seem to be made as well.The eye relief is actually long enough for you use while wearing glasses or sunglasses. I found this to be important because my other golf rangefinder required me to remove my Oakleys every time.In moderate to heavy fog, the laser rangefinder only projects a distance of 6-7 yards as expected. For the early morning tee times, the laser rangefinder may not help you out if there is any mist or fog. This is a situation where GPS is more useful.Overall: 5/5 stars. Easy to use, just insert a fresh battery, aim and click the button to find the range. Use large objects as reference points if needed. The 4x optical magnification is CRISP, about as good as the Trijicon ACOG riflescope although the exit pupil is a tad small, which means it won't work as well in low-light conditions. This one is listed at a great price, since the basic model at WM sells for $200. It easily shows the distance to your target with just one button to push. I don't know what else I could expect of it. Most were quite expensive. I got this on one one of Amazon's gold box lightning specials.On to the review:Appearance - This is a nifty looking device. I like the cammo pattern. It is very light weight, lighter than I figured it would be even after putting the battery in it (9v). If I were a hunter, I'd wonder about the ruggedness of the product but others may talk to that in their reviews. It comes with a carrying case that has a belt loop on it.Usage - This finder fits well in my hand (I am 6feet tall and wear XL gloves). My wife who has small hands can use this with no issues as well. The view finder is very clear and it is very easy to see the numbers as they roll up to give you your distance. I have not tried this in low light yet. I've ranged to targets out to 220 yards with no issues on a return signal. In using in a wooded area, you will need to make sure that you don't have twigs and such in the way of your line of sight, else you will get a false return and at a distance, twigs coming across may be hard to see. Actually using the meter was intuitive. Press the button to turn it on, aim, hold button down for a moment or two and your reading pops up. very easy to use.My initial test parameters were:1) Open field checking distance to trees and homes.2) wooded testing checking distance to various tress or posts/stumps.In using this, you may see some odd distances until you account for twigs/branches that may be in line of sight of the laser so you will need to adjust your point of aim up or down to bypass them.I would purchase this again.
