Why more people don't know about and use these vegetable presses is beyond me. I have a four quart size and just came back to purchase this smaller size for those times when I am not making a vat of veggies.When I was a kid one of my mother's specialties was cucumber salad. She would slice and salt the cucumbers, put them in a bowl, put a plate or other flattish object on top of the cucumbers and then pile on rocks to weight the plate down onto the cucumbers. She'd drain the accumulated water off every few hours, and a day later would take the pressed cucumbers out and make her spectacular salad.Years later when the internet came to be I did a search for pressing veggies and discovered that my mother's task would have been made so much easier if only she'd had one of these presses. I instantly purchased the four quart model. When it arrived I didn't care that all the details and instructions were written in chinese. It was intuitive enough and I've been pressing my cukes (and other veggies) ever since. This gadget is brilliant in its simplicity. If you like crunchy veggies this is a must have kitchen item. This smaller size just perfect for those smaller portions. This is well made, easy to use, easy to clean and durable. Not sure what more one could ask. BUY IT! You wont be sorry. Really. And if you want a truly wonderful treat.... purchase a spiralizer, spiralize your cukes, put them in here for a day and make yourself a bowl of wonderful noodley cucumber salad. It is a summer staple around my house. Great for folks who are watching their carb intake but still want to twirl something around a fork.BOTTOM LINE: Awesome. So easy to use you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

It’s my own fault for not understanding the metric system but it was smaller than I expected. It works well and is easy to clean. I just have to make smaller batches more often.

I bought the 1.0 liter press thinking that one liter (33.8 ounces) was the amount of product I could put in the press. However, the spring/press part takes up a good bit of that space. I doubt that I was able to put 16 oz (.47 liter) in this press.I have only just filled it for the first time. So I may change my review later. I did want to advise people that the size is very misleading. The diameter of the press is 4 1/2 inches. The height is 5 inches. I did not check but I doubt that a liter of liquid would fit in the container.(please note that this review is showing on the 1.1 liter press but my review is on the 1.0 liter press)

I have had this item for more than a week now, and I have made several batches of cucumber salt pickles. This is well made, easy to use, easy to clean, and everyone in the house loves the fresh salt pickles. I have not made any of the recipes that were included with the press (someone else who left a rating interpreted it for those of us who can't read Japanese yet), but I have made them by taking and slicing a 10-12 inch cucumber and layering with salt (4 layers using 1/4 tsp salt each layer). It is probably not as salty as a traditional recipe, but they don't last long enough in this house to worry about spoilage.This item is made in Japan.
