Don't know the dimensions but they are small but not tiny. They work well.

What kind of thread is this cotton or polyester?

I believe it is cotton thread… although nothing came with the kit to verify. 🌞

Can I fit the spools of thread in a sewing machine? What about a portable sewing machine, the new home janome one?

They will fit but not in a machine it might be to aggressive. I only used for little light sewing like emergencies. Not big enough for machines
