Saved My Intake Manifold
A screw thread on the thermostat housing had stripped and my choices to repair was get another manifold (replace myself}, remove manifold for much easier access (this is a 318 in a Dodge van) or repair in place. The first 2 were non-starters for the time and effort it would take. With option 3 I had limited space above for the drill to drill out the stripped thread. Fortunately I had a right angle adapter for my drill, but the bit kept locking up. So I found the smallest bit that would fit the hole, started with the next size up and bit by bit (literally) was able to drill the hole to it's proper size for tapping. You'll ultimately need a 21/64" bit for this helicoil set as it's not supplied. Since I had limited space for tapping, using a standard tap holder would not work well at all. So I set on the idea of using a ratchet, fitting a 3/8" socket to it. You will need a 12-point socket, the 6-point won't work properly. Voilà! Tapped hole, helicoil goes in easily, thermostat housing sealed (using "The Right Stuff" -good stuff!), all is well.

Great Producr
It worked as advertised. Instructions were easy to follow and fixed my lawn tractor’s stripped bolt hole. I had never tried to do this before and found this to be pretty straight forward. Save yourself some money and DIY.

Great product, saves time, saves parts.
Worked better then I could have imagined. Problem: broken bolt in 289 timing cover. Drilled out and tried two different 'easy outs' neither worked. Must have had corrosion or wrong size/pitch thread to begin with. Ordered with the corresponding drill. Worked up to the proper drill size, used the tap which is an excellent quality item, installed said Heli-Coil. I like it's fit with a bolt better than what the remaining holes do. really pleased that I didn't a. have to remove the timing cover to fix this, b. have to replace the timing cover. Absolute sanity saver.

Easy fix for first time user
I got a riding lawn mower with the home I just purchased, and the exhaust manifold and muffler were just dangling from the cylinder head. One of the exhaust manifold studs was stripped and had to be drilled out, and the other stud had been removed but the threads destroyed by the prior owner forcing a non-matching screw into the hole. I did some research on alternatives to taking the head off to have it drilled and tapped at a machine shop and found this handy kit. It was super easy. Inscribed on the tap was the drill bit size needed, 21/64", which I had on hand. It was easy to drill through the aluminum head, and tapping was straight forward. The tap was extremely sharp, and bit into the aluminum right away. I was nervous that it would go in crooked, but the taper at the tip of the tap helped alleviate my concern. I cut about a half turn, then backed off slightly, blew compressed air into the hold to force out the shavings, then repeated, until I had made it all the way to the back of the hole. The tap screwed back out relatively easily. After blowing compressed air into the freshly tapped hole to remove aluminum shavings, the thread insert screwed right in by hand using the included tool. Total time for both holes was about 15 minutes. My only complaint is that the notch at the end of the thread insert didn't seem to be "notched" enough for the tang at the end to easily snap free. It took several whacks and eventually reaching back in there with tiny needle nose pliers to finally get it out. For that reason, I'm knocking off a star. Overall I'd definitely buy another kit if I need them in another size. Huge money saver versus taking the head to a machine shop for re-tapping.

IT WORKED!
I was able to helicoil a 3/8 rebore back down to the proper 5/16 in my aluminum transmission pan-mounting surface. Was honestly super easy and I'm happy to have the kit for later too.
