    Good information for new agents

Being a real estate agent is one of those jobs where you start by knowing nothing and you learn as you go. The classes that you take to get your license simply don't say much about the actual practice. This book makes it clear what the job is: you are a salesperson. Not some sort of a 'facilitator' or a 'marketing expert'. If you want to know what prospecting is, and where to start, I have found this book to be a pretty good introduction. Dirk was obviously more disciplined than I am, but if you follow his advice, and do at least some of what he preaches, I think you stand a good chance of making it.Something I would like to add from my own experience, do a few 'floor time' sessions your first month or two and then drop it and focus on prospecting. That means pick up the phone and make cold calls, ok?

How to prospect for clients in real estate and much more!

*by J***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 17, 2013*

I am not a real estate agent, I am simply a man tired of my job and interested in a move to a more professional career in real estate. As such I am reading 2 books a month until November on the subject in a hope of learning more about the career I am seeking to start. That being said this book is simply incredible it has lifted many of the preconceived notions I had about the career of a real estate agent.Three of the things I learned in this book and plan to implement when I become an agent. (I learned a whole lot more then 3 things)1 - Ask for a referral (page 97) - " If you don't ask your clients to recommend you to their friends or to refer their friends to you for follow up, you're really missing out on a huge opportunity to reach potential prospects"2 - Finding an agency that is good at initial training and ongoing education is more important then finding one with a good split when your a new agent. But you still want to find one that has a good split and good training.3 - When starting as an agent do a lot of open house's for experienced agents. Why? Because though they do not normally sell the house directly they do bring you in contact with a lot of buying prospects.I find this book to be quite helpful from the perspective of someone who wishes to be an agent in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the field or thinking about the field of real estate.

One Book Can't Do It All, but it should be TOP OF LIST

Frankly, I avoided Dummies books for stuff I already knew about, because I was serious about a real estate profession, for me in retirement, and my basic exploration made many books boring (except for the computer related). Well, sinceit showed up on soooo many lists, and was soooo highly rated I had to try it.I do have several progressive degrees, from AA to Ph.D. and 40 years practice in my old profession - read alot of books, took alot of tests, who knows how much continuing education / conferences. You still need other books for other perspectives (Cooks "21 Things I wish My Broker Had Told Me" - funny too!;Keller's "The Millionaire Real Estae Agent" - for thinking about the possibilities.Other books are really needed for reference: Reilly's "The Language of Real Estate" - an encylopedic dictionary, and Barron's "Dictionery Real Estate Terms" which is a pocket type book. State specific stuff is needed too,Jacobus's Texas REAL ESTATE (11th Ed), and the just released to come Dec? companion CD Texas License Test Prep. The Learning Express "Real Estate Sales Exam" does have some state specific sections, as does Texas Real Estate Sales Exam -I have both: both have CD's but text reflects titles, bothhave national exams.Yea, got these and alot more through Amazon.com...just like most of my wifes cook books and medical books.....and we have more off all comming!!!!
