This devotional was a gift to a friend with cancer. It is such an uplifting book. I got mine about 40 years ago.

This was my 93 yr old mother’s favorite devotional and when she passed away I start reading it daily. Filled with such timely wisdom that you just don’t get much of in more current books. It’s very special to me.

Always a great gift to encourage someone. We have worn out several copies over the years, and are still being encouraged by reading daily.

Ordered this for someone grieving the sudden loss of a spouse after someone else who had lost a spouse recommended I do so. It has been my favorite devorional for many years. The selections are short enough for someone feeling too overwhelmed by life for a deep dive into reading material but still substantive enough to be worthwhile.

God speaks to those suffering in heart or circumstances through L.B. Cowman's daily journal, written while she was in China with her husband who was dying of cancer. God uses her compilations of the thoughts of the great devotional writers of her day to speak to the purposes of suffering and trials in a person's life. Through this journal, my faith and trust in God's purposes for me have increased, and I've been able to share the insights with others who are undergoing similar trials. Unlike certain books written by today's 'positive thinkers' and 'prosperity gospel' authors, L.B. Cowman doesn't castigate the person undergoing trials of health or circumstance for their lack of faith or negative thinking, but encourages each one to trust in God's overwhelming love and goodness in his overall plan for each person's life. This is the second year I've read each day's devotions and daily I hear God's voice to me personally through the readings. I had the hard copy already and recently added it to my Kindle for iPad app so that I would have it with me while I travel back and forth dealing with serious family health issues. I highly recommend it for those who are faint of heart and wilting from discouragement in their trials, it is a great encouragement and will get you through hard times with your faith restored.
