The pump works good. You need to make a mount or bracket to hold the valve steady. Otherwise, if the valve flexes, it will throw off the float. My sump is small and I have my regular stand up pump and this one in it so it is kind of tight on space. I did not have any problems with the valve leaking like others have reported.

Flotec E-Sump Pump
Pump was pretty simple to install. Just needed a few parts from the hardware store. A 3/4 water supply line to run into the pump and some pvc pipe and connectors to tie into the existing discharge pipe. Total will probably cost about $30-$50 from home improvement store. Very excited not to have to worry about power outages again. Very happy with purchase.

That was fine for almost 2 years
Please, please do not buy. This is our third one, the first lasted a long time, the second I replace the valve (c.$60) because the warranty had expired by one year. That was fine for almost 2 years, when it went again. Now it runs constantly. I don't know for how long it has, but dread my next water bill. Its age - purchased in August, 2013 - that's right, just a little outside the warranty period.

Works as intended
I had one before and the float valve became sticky. The old version used a string instead of a rod so this would be an issue. The rod resolves this issue. I wish they sold the pump and float valve separately.

Caution
The PVC, water supply and mounting issues are by no means trivial. Nothing is made easy by the manufacturer in terms of what is needed and how to do it. The pump requires a sizable crock so that it can sit beside the main pump; also needed is a plastic PVC from the main pump on which this pump depends and feeds into. The water supply to the pump could have been a garden hose for example but is an NTP thread. This pump would require hundreds of dollars of plumber,s labor to have installed and is not an easy install for the regular person.

Worked ok for a year and I like the backup water option
Worked ok for a year and I like the backup water option. If you're out of town and your main pump fails a battery backup can only hold up so long. Only issue is valve has now failed so I need to replace it.

Flotec FP480WBU Emergency Sump Pump
Used this to replace an old water-powered backup that had the float valve fail. This valve is great, and the unit was easy to install. Tests fine. Eliminates that worry about the main pump failing.
