Excellent tool to keep your knives like new
I bought this sharpening rod from Seki Japan and it exceeded my expectations. The quality is obvious from the first use- solid construction, great balance, and a flawless finish. It sharpens kitchen knives quickly and accurately without damaging the edge. Even my older knives regained their cutting power. The handle feels comfortable and secure, which makes the sharpening process easy and safe. The size is perfect for working with different types of knives. If you're looking for a durable, professional-quality tool to maintain your knives in top condition, this is an outstanding choice. Absolutely worth the investment.

Works
I highly recommend this ceramic sharpener. Easy to use, I've brought life back to scissors, PVC cutters, kitchen knives, and camping knives. Use a leather strop after and the knives will be shave sharp. If your blade is too far gone use a stone or diamond sharpener to repair, then use the ceramic rod and you're set. This is now my favorite way to sharpen

A nice stick with an uncomfortable handle
The sharpening portion of this rod is good. It does what it should and it works with my blades. It's a little more porous than some ceramic rods (meaning like a more coarse grit sandpaper would be) than some of the smooth rods I own, but it's a nice addition to my arsenal when it comes to maintaining an edge. That said, the handle is pretty rough. Mine had flashing and molding marks that dug into my hand, sharp edges and the handle is, in general, too small for my medium-to-large size hands. If you have big mitts, this thing will not be for you... fortunately, mine are not oversized. I took some sandpaper to the handle (which reminds me of the old Bakelite material) to smooth it down. It's slick and edgy, but this helped with the sharp edges. It does not strike me as a high-quality manufactured device. The rod portion is great, but the handle is the cheapest of the cheap.

It's a little short for everyday use
This is a really great little ceramic "Steele". I bought it to replace the one in my knife roll that's too big, unfortunately this one is just a little bit too small. If it's for occasional use or you have space issues this is perfect but if you're using it everyday I would like it to be a couple inches longer. That being said it's exactly as it was described.

I wanted a smaller ceramic rod for my knife bag and this one fit the bill. it is very small, but with enough practice you can hone a 240mm knife. It feels to me that this may be similar to 1000 grit, so for some might be too coarse but I prefer it for my bag at work to quickly touch up my knives throughout the day. I use a longer, higher grit rod at home.

I've just purchased this sharpener 'again' about 5 minutes ago. I stumbled upon it through amazon.com where there was a strong positive reviews for this product. I was looking for a different type of steel to the standard daimant ones. Thi product also drew my attention after reading a review from another customer who professed to this sharpener being really great for sharpening Khukuri's, a knife native to my heritage. So I thought I would give it a try. It came from Japan in a box buried under piles of Japanese newspaper. I didn't realize what was in the box until I got past the piles of foreign language printing haha. The item looks really cheap, and the handle is made of plastic that looks tacky. The instructions arent clear either, it's very basis English. And to start off with I used it like I use a normal steel, but I couldn't feel and resistance agains the teeth of my knifes. But then after reattempting the instructions to the letter in various degree of inclination until I could feel some kind of resistance I soon found out how FLIPPING AMAZING THIS CERAMIC STEEL IS!!! I cannot recommend it enough! really nice steel. A bit odd method of using and that aspect might take trial and error to find. But really nice. Just incase tho, start with your least favourite knife. I don't own any expensive knifes, just a few basic victoriknox so I had no fears. I wouldn't want anybody to take my review as the word of God and start with their most fav knife and be disappointed. Happy sharpening to everyone. And ps, this really does work with Khukuri's. Superbly, it's the reason why I've ordered a second one.
