Pro Boil = Yum Yum Yum
Yum yum yum. I never heard of this before until I wanted to re-create the Boiling Crab Cajun flavor experience at home and did an online search to figure out how. (That restaurant had the audacity to charge $25 per pound on dungeness crab citing **market price** when my local grocer is selling live crabs for $7 per pound. Good thing I only ordered 2 crabs without knowing what market price was...but it was a $100 mistake I will not make again!). Anyway, back to my Boiling Crab DIY story...some online tips recommended that in addition to re-creating the sauce at home, to also boil the seafood with seafood boil first. I didn't know what seafood boil was, but I knew Amazon has everything and sure enough Amazon came to the rescue. I bought this based on the excellent reviews and had it delivered to my doorstep. Yes! No need to wander the aisles of the supermarkets searching and asking for this. I have used this twice now and I think it imparts terrific flavor to the seafood before they get dunked in my homemade Boiling Crab Whole Shebang sauce. When I don't want to go through the trouble of making the separate sauce, I am happy to just boil my seafood in this (according to instruction). De-shell the critters and dunk in melted butter. YUM! Note that I boil my seafood and take it right out. But the instructions tell you to leave your seafood soaking in the boil water for longer for stronger flavor. In my opinion, I think you can follow directions the first time and once you figure out how to use this, just do what you like. Anyway, the product is great and you cannot beat the price on Amazon. I paid $5 thanks to Subscribe and Save and when I opened the box, HOLY MOLY, I was amazed as the size of the canister. If you use this according to instructions, you should be able to boil: 50 lbs. of shrimp - OR - 40 lbs. of crayfish - OR - 5 dozen dungeness crabs! I don't know if I will ever eat that much seafood in my lifetime...but I'm going to try. I saw the 4 oz. Zatarain's liquid seafood boil at my local supermarket for $6. This is at least 12 times that in volume. If you're big on seafood, you'll probably want to go with this.

Congrats Zatarain's! Well done!
Being from Louisiana and having had some of the best boil mixes from several of the seafood shops there, I was a little skeptical on using this. I had extra salt, cayenne, lemon, garlic, etc on hand to jazz this up if it was disappointing. It was not. This was a great product and much better than other Zatarain's boils. After purging the mudbugs, I just emptied the contents of one of these into my 80qt pot, filled it with enough water to cover the crawfish, and let it come to a boil. The smell was amazing. After cooking the first batch, I was impressed with the flavor, though, for my taste, it could have been a little bit saltier. When boiling the second batch, I added another 1/4 of a container (I had bought two) and they came out PERFECT! Just the right spice, just the right salt. It was enough heat to get the uninitiated sniffling, but not too much so that they were unwilling to continue to "pinch the tail and suck the head"! Great product. I will definitely be using this again for all my future boiling needs!

Crawfish boil for the ages
Love it! Flavor and heat without the excessive straight salt flavor of some close competitors or even other powders in this product line. This whole thing with a half little bottle of liquid Cajun seasoning, and you got yourself a crawfish boil. We added mushrooms and sweet potatoes (sweet potatoes was new for us, just slice em into 3 discs) Woo Buddy. Now we are talkinโ.

Zatarains Pro Boil
Very tasty. Very spicy. Powdered spices. Blended well. Nothing to clean up (like spice bags). The jar will do about 1 and 1/2 jumbo boils. If you're doing a small size - you'll get more out the jar of course. We use a super huge pot and cook over 40 lbs of shrimp, potatoes, sausage and corn on the cob at one time. It smells good, tastes great. I am thrilled to have found this stuff and will purchase again. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. All of my reviews reflect my honest, personal experience with the reviewed item - your experience may be different. I am not influenced by any outside source. I receive/accept NO free products or discounts that are not available to all shoppers- ever. I am a verified purchaser - not a paid reviewer. I have been doing honest, trustworthy reviews for well over 25 years with Amazon - posting thousands and thousands of reviews - which have been viewed over 8.2 million times to date. I am NOT a fake reviewer. BOTTOM LINE: I pay for ALL my stuff, just like you do - with hard earned dollars!

Pro-Boil makes boring quinoa an amazing side!
I'd never used Zatarain's Pro-Boil before, but since I like their other products and the price was excellent, I figured I'd give it a go. Well, now there's a place on the pantry shelf dedicated to Zatarain's Pro-Boil. Our favorite use for this is a tablespoon or so in the rice cooker water when we're making quinoa. (TIP: Mix the water and seasoning separately in a shaker, then dump it in the rice cooker -- that way the flavor is even and the Zatarain's doesn't rise to the top!) It takes a little experimentation to get a flavor that isn't too salty, but just start light and add more until the flavor has peaked. I served this as part of a BBQ meal and my brother enjoyed it and wanted more. His fiancee was thrilled -- she likes quinoa, but he's always hated it, so seeing him dive in for more gave her hope that she could whip up quinoa he'd actually want to eat. We have well-flavored quinoa that we're happy to eat about 3 nights a week. Pro-Boil's flavor profile goes with pretty much everything, and I even used it successfully as a rub on a smoked pork loin. When this jar runs out, I will shed a brief tear and then re-order.
