Looking Good: Wardrobe Planning and Personal Style Development

Good Book
I never really took home economics, i only wore uniforms in school and my mother isnt very girly, so knowing how to be fashionable and keeping a wardrobe was/is a learning process. I wish I had this book back a few years ago when I was in high school and college. I spent countless dollars on "one time" outfits and have tons of clothes but nothing to wear.So how does this book help? It does the usual by telling you to identify your style, purge your closets and start a wardrobe with what is left. Then it gives you a plan for building your wardrobe which is what most other book fail to do. It tells you to create as many outfits as you can with each article of keep-able clothing and make a chart of those outfits. Then it tells you how to go a bit further and create capsule wardrobes. This is what I think im missing. There are some other great tidbits on how to use line, shape and color to accentuate your body. The advice is not dated but some other illustrations are. Im going to be honest, with a few adjustments of length, the illustrations/pictures could be used for someone who is more of a classic style.Overall i really like this book. I would suggest it to anyone trying to develop a wardrobe especially those just entering the workforce.

Good Wardrobe and Style Advice is Never Out-Dated
This book is on a recommended reading list for those individuals who are trying to be certified as an image consultant with one of the top associations in the world. At first, I was VERY skeptical as this book is copyrighted 1996 but I couldn't have been more wrong! It was GREAT! It definitely reiterated many of the things that I've been taught, however many of the suggestions, techniques and worksheets were so useful! Fashion trends may become outdated however personal style and development never goes out of style. This book is great and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is trying to define their personal style and build their wardrobe around it. The advice in this book is not outdated and is extremely invaluable.

A Good Reference
This book is a strong reference piece with useful illustrations. I agree with other reviewers that the styles and color palettes could benefit from an update. The advice offered is sound, however, and regardless of outdated fashion lines in the examples they clearly convey the concept being illustrated. In addition to the illustrations the reader is asked to evaluater her wardrobe using charts and graphs. Questionaires about preference are included as well as a measurement worksheet to help the reader sort out the information being presented. It may sound like a lot of information but it is an easy, managable approachThe manner in which these ideas are illustrated is the real strength of this piece-if the reader is very visual this is the book to have. The graphs, charts, and questionaires in the book also offer the reader options for reflection.Frankly there are several other books available which offer very similar information, but I would still recommend having this one on hand as a reference.

Great foundational advice with heart!
Some principles are never out of style - and while the fashion landscape keeps changing (often faster than we consumers can keep up with) there's great basic information in this book. Read through it once, then read through it again...use it to help you organize and edit your wardrobe so that you don't waste money buying things that just won't work.I am a professional image consultant, and I use a LOT of the information in this book on my own wardrobe and when working with clients. The individual garments purchased will vary from person to person, but the guiding principles will work for you if you work them!

This book is the bomb!
This is a book for both the individual trying to improve personal style as well as professionals in the image industry. As an image consultant myself, this is the first book that I have found that really covers every aspect of image. It even includes undergarments something that is lacking in 99% of image books on the market. This is the book to get. I now consider this my image bible. If I am doing workshops, its the only book I take with me in the event I have to answer a question to a subject which my not be the focus of my expertise (e.g. colour)Forget the others, buy this book. You will not be sorry.
