Yes , you can buy a gel connector from screwfix and extend to any length you like, make sure you get the correct cable to connect to.

instruction say oil must be changed, does anyone know what type of oil and how this needs to be done??

Would this help with blanket weed issues ?

Yes it would. We used this in our pond partly to circulate water which is very importnt in the control of blanket weed. You must be able to move it around your pond to contact with the blanket weed, and keep moving it around. Blanket weed is very difficult to eradicate but we did this with a huge rake which my husband made and used it to rake out the dead blanket weed every week. It is hard work!! But, it does work. Our pond was really quite big, and it took all of one summer to haul all the blanket weed out - having done that it didn't need to be done again for a few years. The big rake was towed behind a boat and we lifted a three ton trailer-full of the dreaded weed!! It is a long term job, but it can be done - there is also a chemical which kills the blanket weed but you still have to remove it from your pond!! Sorry to be so long-winded. Good luck with that.
