Phenomenal quality at such a good price. The case has hinges and foam that has cutouts for every piece of the kit. The case has front snap catches for closing the case and securing it. I wish it would have some kind of sliding lock to be more secure. Each piece of the kit comes in a plastic bag and each piece except for the rule comes with an oil coating to prevent rust. My son brought tools home from work to check the accuracy of all the components of this kit. He was floored to see every setup of the combination square was dead on accurate. He was amazed at the low price I paid for such a quality tool. Now I can throw away all my cheap combination squares. This was definitely money well spent.

I thought it was a coin flip if this was going to be a nice tool or closer to junk, but luckily it was a winner. Nice and sturdy (not the thinner flimsy kind) so for the price it would be hard to beat. Just as good a super costly name brands IMO as this tool will last a nice long time for DIYers or even daily use in a professional environment.

Let's start with the good: I was able to get the ruler into the center finder. The locking tab made it a bit challenging to inser the ruler, but once it was in and locked down, it felt solid enough. Unfortunately this was the only usable combo in the set. Now on to the bad. First up, the most basic piece in the set: the ruler. You'd think it would be a no-brainer to make a decent ruler with smooth straight edges, but here, at least in set I received, the edges were quite rough and sharp. One of edges had a small raised jagged ridge about an inch from one end, and it was sharp enough to snag and slice a shop towel. Next, the square. It was really tough getting the ruler into the square because of the shape of the locking tab. The tab stuck out so far that it made ruler a really tight fit. Eventually I got it in, but I had to wrap the ruler in a towel to keep from slicing my hands on the sharp edges. When I locked it down there was excessive side-to-side play in the ruler, because the slot for the ruler is much wider than the thickness of the ruler itself. Finally, the protractor. I never could get the ruler to fit in this one. I tried it one way, flipped the ruler around, still no go. The locking tab and pin were too thick. I even rotated the pin so the tab was on the other side of the ruler slot, but still not enough clearance for the ruler. Anyway, quality is unacceptable for what is allegedly a measuring tool. I just feel bad for the delivery guy who dropped this off at 9PM! Little did he know that barely half an hour later it would be packed up again with a return label.

I have gripes. But it'll still do what I need for the most part. But I'm not happy. 1) All the pieces came covered in a good film of oil and in bags, which is awesome. They know how to protect tools, so +1. 2) I don't think these folks know what a deburring tool looks like to save their life. Holy cow. It's not just sharp edges all over, but half of the edges also have a pretty good size burr on them too. -1. 3) I checked everything with a machinist square and yep, the combo square hits 90 degrees, the protractor measures 90 degrees accurately, and the center finder hits 90. So that's nice, +1. 4) In checking, I discovered that the ruler isn't straight. It has a slight bow in it. -1. 5) It's heavy duty. Man I love a good sturdy tool made from good cast steel. +1. 6) That steel is Chinese. I have a plugin that filters my Amazon results and gets rid of anything chinese. I thought this was from Canada until it showed up with a big ol Made In China sticker. -1. 7) The enamel paint has some over spray onto the ground steel faces here and there, adding thickness, and meaning I can't use those surfaces as proper datums. -1. 8) I checked this ruler against another (that measures to the 0.01"), and they didn't line up. Which means either this one or that one is flat out wrong. Only off by about 0.02-0.03" over the full 12", so not enough to make a serious difference, but potentially wrong nonetheless. If this was only $50-60, I could understand. But not $100. Not when I can go get a quality Starrett or Mitotuyo for not too much more. Pro tip: just go get the Mitotuyo or Starrett. Buy once, cry once.

High end is for old timers. This set does the job and have had no complaints from staff. Metal fabrication is what we do. Durable.
