Summary I was debating between this brand and one of the more popular brands but ultimately went with this due to the "replaceable" tip. I'm glad I did! Pros - Storage case is substantial - made me feel like I bought a true 'scientific instrument' - Came with all the accessories I need! I guess I didn't read the description carefully, but came with calibration fluid as well as storage fluid. There was also a lanyard. - Easy to use! Right off the bat, the device was already calibrated at the factory using all 3 PH values for reference. There is even a certificate certifying the same. I did my own calibration, though, and it was easy to do! (The drawback to doing your own calibration is you'll need the PH 10 reference fluid to complete the trio of calibration. Out of the factory all 3 were done and you'll see an icon L, M, H indicating this. If you do the PH 4 and PH 7 calibrations, you'll get L & M but no H. I'm OK with this but if you need super precision, something to keep in mind.) - Seems accurate based on my drop tester readings (which aren't as accurate because I have to compare color codings). I don't have another reference point so this is my opinion. Cons - As someone else mentioned, the backlight doesn't stay on very long. Not really a true Con for me as I don't need it under the conditions I operate in, but it would be nice to have a setting to adjust how long it stays on. - The storage solution is nice! I ended up using the entire bottle pretty quickly. 2x the size might be nice. It apparently lengthens (or cleans) the probe so I always store it in the solution. The solution seems to rapidly dissipate for whatever reason. More can be bought on its own, however. All in all I am very pleased with this tester. It fits my requirements for hydroponics and nutrient measurements. It was a great price and came with all you need to get started.

I wanted to check the accuracy of the pH sensor our pool had. I also hate using those tester strips which require identifying if the colour is light yellow or pale amber... I mean, really? Plus those strips are calibrated for a specific temperature, so any result you get with them will likely be wrong if your water temp is outside the norm. Anyhow, I hunted around and this seemed to be the one a lot of people recommended. It came in a neat little kit that included everything you needed in a hard shell case - although I'd recommend also buying some extra storage solution as the included amount will not last long. Use is super easy, and it automatically adjusts for temperature. You can also modify the settings so the backlight changes colour if the reading is outside the ideal numbers. I wondered why the case had an empty spot, then I realised that was so you could stand the tester up with the cap filled with storage solution. A really nice touch. If you want to keep it in the case with the lid closed, you just need to remember to store it on the side so there is less chance of leakage from the cap. Keep in mind that if you store it in tap, pool, or distilled water that could damage and permanently impact the accuracy of the tester. They do say that if it is stored dry, then that will also impact the accuracy of the sensor, but this can be fixed by soaking it in storage solution for a few days. Personally, I'd just get the storage solution - it's not expensive, the cap only requires a small amount, and you don't have to replace it after every use so a bottle will last a while. As for accuracy - I don't have a lab quality reference device to test it against, but it definitely appears to be more than accurate enough at least for testing a pool at home. I can't say anything about longevity as I've only had it now for a few weeks, but the sensor is replaceable plus it appears to be well made - so I think it should last well if treated with the care something like this deserves. They do have a newer version of this that has bluetooth and a "new improved sensor". For me this is more than good enough I think, I don't really have any need to track the readings over time, and as much as I am a geek the additional cost didn't really seem to justify it. Overall, very happy with this tester.

Definitely love this tool. I didn’t even have to calibrate. It came pre set with proper rinsing it’s been working fine for 8 months now zero problems. Better price than bluelab just as good.

I recently purchased this Apera PH60 pH Tester for General Purpose in order to test a variety of home foods, drinks, toothpastes, mouthwashs, etc. The intent is to better manage dental health (tooth enamel erosion) by avoiding acidic items as much as possible. As a retired chemist, I understand pH principles and how to properly treat meters, measuring probes, and aqueous test samples. I've used this PH60 tester across most of the pH spectrum (0-14) in aqueous liquids, pastes, and gels over the last few weeks now, and have been pleased with the overall performance. The 3-point auto buffer calibration is quick and easy, and sample readings usually stabilize within seconds. The backlit screen makes it easy to read pH value (with smiley face confirmation of stability), sample temperature, and which buffers were used during last calibration. It's nice knowing this device has the automatic temperature compensation (ATC), since pH is temperature dependent. Immediate and thorough cleaning of critical measuring structures at probe tip (glass sensing bulb and porous reference junction) is, of course, essential, and this has been easily accomplished using distilled water in a 16 loz LDPE squirt bottle (separate purchase). The delicate glass sensing bulb is protected within a cage of plastic, but can easily be accessed by removal of probe cap. This tester is a nice, convenient pocket size, and its plastic body appears to be waterproof. The plastic carry case seems well built and securely holds all the necessary calibration liquids and containers. A relatively simple, compact, conveniently portable pH measuring system good for home or lab use. Given its reasonable price and my hassle-free, positive results thus far, I would definitely recommend.

I purchased since this model was highly recommended from many homebrewers. I like that it is easy to use, comes with a case, all the needed pH test liquids, and easy to understand instructions. One main issue is the speed of the readings. When using the calibration liquids the readings are fairly quick. When doing water adjustments and giving my salts time to dissolve, this meter can take up to 2-3 minutes to get a steady reading. I have had it go from 7.8 start only to finally run down to 6.9. When it does get a steady reading, it still jumps up and down anywhere from 3-10 points so I still have to guess an average. The other issue I have is the bulb replacement and pH test liquid replacement costs. The two of them together are about the cost of a new kit. Why would I not just buy a new kit then?

This is the 4th electronic ph meter ive bought for my pool but i regret not buying it sooner as it's leagues better than the others. The PH measurements with this AI311 are fast and easy to take and match my laborious taylor kit -or more like my taylor kit matches this meter. This meter shows a stable ph reading easily read in sunlight or the dark within 2 or 3 seconds of placing in pool water. My previous units would take minutes sometimes to stabilize and i never trusted them much. This meter i trust. There is one thing that this meter requires and that is you must dip to rinse tip in distilled water before and after taking a measurement. Not a big deal but you need to keep distilled water on hand and make sure other users of the meter also dont skip this step. The alarm feature using different colors of back lighting is great as are the smiley face icons both of which can be set to any range you like. The meter reads tenths and hundreds and makes pool care so much easier knowing precisely what the PH level is. - I made the mistake of dumping 5lbs of ph up powder instead of ph down powder in the pool last week after heavy rains and this meter saved my butt. Pool turned cloudy immediately but I had ph back to perfect and water crystal clear within an hour. I couldnt have managed that guessing my rapidly fluctuating ph. on a strip or repeatedly using a test kit. I love this meter.

I've calibrated this thing two times already. I've followed the directions and even watched the apera ph60 video on YouTube on exactly how to calibrate this. It will not stay steady for any second. The readings is all over the place. I've used the cleaner it comes with each time I've recalibrate it and it does not change. It's very frustrating to not know exactly what my ph is. This damn thing was $80. I'm not happy with it. Probably gonna return. Even when calibration it reads all over the place and never an exact reading. I paid the extra money for this because I want not only an accurate reading but a fast one. This is not it

I have used a few PH meter pens before. I started with the cheap $15-$20 yellow meters, then switched to a Bluelab PH Pen, and now moved up to this meter. The yellow PH meters are not accurate or consistent. The Bluelab was a huge upgrade. It's an expensive device, but it would not hold a calibration, stopped allowing me to calibrate it, and when I did try to use it, it would take up to 15 minutes and me turning the meter back on multiple times. This is not just to bash Bluelab. I am sure they have good products, but my experience wasn't what the price or hype made it up to be. I finally just got this Apera PH60 pen. The calibration from the factory did not hold up, so it either stayed on a shelf for a long time or just didn't get calibrated well. It was super easy to calibrate and comes with 4.00, 7.00, and 10.01 calibration fluids. It also has testing vials, a lanyard, and KCL soaking solution (to restore the probe if it dries out too much). The probes are replaceable (for about $35) and are supposed to last for a year. One of the nicest touches they added, was a laminated instruction set... so if you get water or calibration fluid on the instructions, they aren't ruined. They also won't come off on a sticker like my Bluelab did. It's obviously too soon for me to review how long the calibration sticks, but I will update my review if I find it doesn't hold a calibration. Overall I am very happy with the purchase so far.

I use a ph meter for plant nutrient solution. Previously, I had a couple of cheap China imports, which seemed reasonably accurate for a while, but don't last long. All ph probes degrade over time, so rather than keep buying cheap, I decided to get a more reliable one with a replaceable probe. This is quite expensive compared to some other brands with good reviews, say the Essentials PH Meter, and @ £29 the replacement probe is not much cheaper than buying a new Essentials meter. However, replacing just the probe reduces waste, and gives you options: there are 4 compatible probe types (all available on Amazon), which you can buy separately as replacements, or to measure different substances. The glass bulb is for liquids, the spear probe for solids, such as foods, soil, the flat probe for paper, cloth, skin etc. And you can buy an ORP (Oxygen Reduction Potential) probe to use with this meter, which tells you the "killing power" of your solution/water (sterilising or not, a simplification of complex subject). The life of the probe will depend on how often you use it, and how you treat it. The probe is supposed to last 12 - 24 months - it's CE rated for 6 months (for safe use), but that's NOT its life expectancy. It CAN be stored dry, without degrading it, according to instructions, but storing it dry will affect its sensitivity. So if you store it dry, for accuracy, you need to soak it in the provided solution before use. It can be stored in the soaking solution, but NOT in purified water. The kit comes with everything you need: soaking solution, 2 calibration solutions, batteries, lanyard (quite a long one), 2 containers for calibration, instruction manuals in English and German, as well as a laminated quick reference chart, all in a hard plastic case. The instructions are clear, easy to understand, and contain all relevant info. Instructions say not to use soaking/storage solutions from other companies, but as long as the same (potassium chloride or kcl @ 3 molar strength) and/or for the same type of ph meter, I don't see why. Will be ignoring that myself (no Apera replacements on Amazon, either). The calibration solutions will last quite a while, the soaking solution is enough to fill the cap to the mark about twice. 2 reviews for the replacement probe said the glass bulb was too exposed and breaks easily. I disagree - the bulb is inside and above the plastic rim, which does have gaps in the side, but doubt it would break if dropped on flat surface. IP67 means it's dust proof, and can be immersed in up to 1 m of water, or for up to 30 mins, depending on info source. It doesn't mean it's hermetically sealed, though. Overall, the meter seems robust, and looks like it will stand up well to any normal use. So far, would recommend, despite quite high price, as seems well worth it, all things considered. Edit: Have been using this for 6 years now, about once per week, and it still works fine. Have not calibrated it in a while, but it seems to be accurate enough for my purposes (fertiliser/irrigation solution for plants). Like the back-light feature, and it's very easy to calibrate. If it keeps switching to settings screen when you turn it on, it means batteries need replacing, the battery icon does not seem to show accurately. Have so far replaced mine once.
