Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller: A No-Brainer Upgrade
After my 20+ year old legacy controller finally gave up the ghost, I embarked on a quest to find a modern replacement. The Rachio 3 caught my attention, and here’s why. I scoured Amazon reviews, seeking a smart sprinkler controller that would seamlessly replace my old system. The Rachio 3 consistently stood out for its features and positive feedback from users. With confidence, I made the purchase. The installation process was reminiscent of setting up my Nest thermostat—simple and straightforward. Here’s how it went: Unboxing: The Rachio 3 arrived with superb written instructions right in the box. Kudos to the team for clarity! -Old Controller Farewell: I bid farewell to my old controller, noting the existing wiring stages. It was time for an upgrade. -The mounting process was a breeze. -Wiring Magic: Inserting the wires into the Rachio was like connecting the dots. Foolproof and efficient. -Up and Running: With minimal effort, my new smart sprinkler system was up and running. Seriously, a no-brainer upgrade.

Buyer beware renewed. Buy factory new.
The Controller arrived DOA and with a coating of cigarette or cigar tar customizing the front cover and exterior rear panel. 33.4 acv output from the plug-in transformer accompanying the Controller. No BLUE bars, not one on the Rachio. I would not recommend renewed models!! As an irrigation contractor i would recommend NEW from the factory, first use RACHIO 3 models. They, generally speaking, just work.

Just as good as new
The refurb unit was basically brand new and I couldn’t tell any difference. It installed easily and replaced an older Hunter Pro-C controller I had. The app is great and it’s pretty easy to set up your zones. Time will tell if grass gets healthier than before, no difference over 1 month.

no power, would not turn on
the plug wasn't working (I think that was the problem) and it would not turn on

Worked perfectly first try
Easiest set up ever. Mounted box, swapped wires, downloaded app and set up zones and wham bam thank you maam it worked perfectly. Uses my address to see if I even need to water based on current conditions, allows me to hit one spot by the pool if things look a little dry using my phone instead of walking around the yard to the controller. Had a cheap Home Depot Orbit, Rainbird and some other brands in the past but this is definitely the best I've worked with.

Quality sprinkler system
Good sprinkler system- easy to set up and use. Got a lot of rebates from the water company because I purchased this so it paid for itself

Nothing but problems and high water bill
Constantly off line. Reports no watering runs but it runs every day. Ripping this controller out and replacing with a “Dumb” Rainbird I have control over.
