Works perfect. Easy set up & increments sunrise suntset perfectly. Plus can do more complex On/Off multiple times a day.
Doing perfect job. I have sunlight sensor on my transformer to turn on and turn off 25 LED landscape lights. Worked fine on new landscape but when Yuletide Camellia has grown and sun angle getting low or cloudy day they never go off because location of sunlight senor it is always little too dark so lights staying on 24 x 7 especially on cloudy days. I ordered this device, programed it according to instructions now lights come on at precise Sunset per Weather Channel and go Off at precise sunrise. During the setup process instructions you set the Year Month Day and Time plus there is a map you designate your region location (longitude impacts sunrise/sunset) and enter current day sunset time you can get from Weather Channel app. Then it increments the daily Sunset Sunrise perfectly in sync with that reported by the Weather Channel app. Saves electricity as well as reduces the hours on LED lamps. Granted they use lower power and have long life. But the LED long life part is theoretical 10,000 hours and not actual and they are expensive to replace so no need them being on during the day.

Does the job nicely for indoor plant lighting
I'm running this the opposite way from most posters: I want my plant lights to come on an hour before local sunrise, and go off an hour after local sunset. As a total cost/value necessity, the programming is a little like VCR programming used to be. If you want an interactive Alexa programming, you'll have to pay a lot more than this bargain price! When you are setting it up, you have to select one of three US Latitude bands. After entering the date and time, you can see the (computed) local Sunrise and Sunset. You get to ALTER those two numbers, which I did for botanical reasons. You might alter them because you live far East or West in your time zone. I only needed one "event", but you can enter up to 7 "on and off" event pairs. Events can use specific hour-minute times, or the Astronomical (... from the name of the device) Sunrise or Sunset time. I am very glad to have found this device, especially since Amazon offered me an open-box unit, on Prime! One warning: I suspect that the timer uses a Triac semiconductor to control the load. It has a different wattage rating for each type of load. For example, it's rated 1000W incandescent lights, but only 500VA (that's a quantity very similar to Watts) for electronic ballasts, like modern fluorescents. They haven't updated the instructions for today's LED lighting, so I'm using the conservative 500VA rating for my 140 Watt Hi-Bay LED lighting fixture. I would check your load rating very carefully before selecting this device for a big load, like a pump motor. (Literature says 1/2 horsepower, presumably for motors.) I would also remind you that big pumps located far from the house are likely to have huge "starting" currents.

Brilliantly Simple... IF you read the instructions.
This is my second purchase of this unit. My first unit came with my koi pond equipment from Sacramento Koi. The first time I tried programming it, I was too lazy to read the instructions, and because it wasn't very intuitive, I was a little put off. When I actually took the 2 minutes required to read the 1 sheet of instructions (front and back), it was brilliantly simple. My first time programming, I brought the sheet out with me and went step by step. After the first ON/OFF pair, I was able to program the rest of the settings without using the sheet. Basically, there are 7 pairs of ON/OFF settings that you can program. For each pair, you must: 1. Set the ON time. 2. Select day or days to run the program. Here, you can choose a single day, weekdays, or weekends. 3. Set the Hour. This will also give you the option of selecting the Sunrise or Sun-down times. 4. Set the minute. 5. Set the corresponding OFF time (repeats steps 2-4 above). ... repeat for 6 other ON/OFF pairs if needed. Once it's all programmed, you can press the SELECT FUNCTION button to: 1. Stay ON, ignoring all programming 2. Stay OFF, ignoring all programming 3. Auto ON, keeps it ON until the next program tells it to turn OFF then continue with programming schedule 4. Auto OFF, keeps it OFF until the next program tells it to turn ON then continue with programming schedule 5. Some other one's but I forget what they are... i think they are random (RDM) so that it turns ON/OFF within 30 minutes of your programmed times, but I have never used this, just the first 4. If you try to program before it's plugged in, the screen will be super dim because the (single AA) battery is meant to keep the programming in memory in case of a power-outage, not to run the system. As soon as it's plugged in, the screen will be more readable. Overall, I like the unit better than the type that you put the little plastic plugs into because it offers more variety. Note: I live in northern California, where in never really gets too cold or too wet. It gets really hot, though (over 100* F), for weeks at a time, and it has held up throughout the summer.

good little gadget
so far only One random unwanted reset all by itself, I have had it outside in Florida running a small fish pond pump on this timer and besides one strange rest it is working well with the elements. In Florida it rains! So I needed something to endure all the moisture and it is doing the trick. Relativelyy easy to program once you get the hang of it not hard at all, so I gave it 4 stars only because of a random reset it did all on its own. It does have a watch size battery for power interruptions, also very key in florida with storms!

Defective with a capital D
Purchased to control landscape lights -- have them come on at sundown and off at a specific time. When unit works, it is at best adequate for the job. Now the numerous problems. 1) It does not remember your program. In 4 months has forgotten the programming twice. 2) It loses track of time. Every now and then it will gain or lose hours of time. 3) It does not understand daylight savings time. For my use, I'll need to change the programming twice a year. 4) It will become completely non-functional in 4 months. Totally useless. UPDATE: Company replaced the unit under warranty -- fingers crossed. In setting up the new unit, it does support daylight savings time -- it was just another item that did not work in the old unit.

Great timer for pond fountain
I use this to control my pond pump. Super easy to set on off times. You set 2 times. One for on and one for off. You can set, I think 15 pairs of times. The times can be for a certain day, weekend, weekday or everyday. There are 6 different modes: 1) on: always on; 2) on/auto: turns on immediately and auto shut off at next scheduled off time; 3) on/random: turns on immediately and shuts off at a random time around the next scheduled off; 4) off: always off; 5) off/auto: turned off and turns on/off at next scheduled times - this is the mode you want for it to follow the schedule exactly; 6) off/random: turned off the turns on/off around your next scheduled times. What I do is have 2 times per day when my fountain comes on. If I want it on at other times, I change the mode to on/auto so it will turn off at the next scheduled off time. It can turn on or off at dusk or dawn, but you cannot say turn off 30 minutes after on at dawn. I'm not sure how that my off time ended up being after the on time. I guess I assume it would turn on and not off again until next scheduled off time so you would have to keep updating the off time. Other than that, I love it,

Inexpensive, Robust, Digital Timer
I bought this to run my Christmas lights this year due to my outdoor mechanical timer no longer working. I bought this because it looked the most robust for the money and had dual grounded outlets. There have been no issues for the 3 weeks it has been running and we have had several days of rain. I am probably only running about 2 amps through it, but I would feel comfortable operating it within its limits. As some users have mentioned, programming is not as intuitive as other units (I have an indoor digital timer from another company that is very intuitive), but the included directions were easy enough to figure it out. One user review has even better directions on Amazon. There are plenty of options to select from and I like that it can have dusk and dawn times update based on location. I also like that you can easily mount this to a wall or fence with two screws or nails. The one negative is that it did not include mounting screws. Overall I would recommend this if you need a solid outdoor timer.

Decent outdoor timer for low voltage lighting
I want to run my low voltage lighting from dusk to 11:00 pm each night. I have used transformers with photocells, but they never work well, especially with Seattle's often gray days that cause the lights to come on in the middle of the day. I have transformers with just mechanical clocks, but I have to reset the on time several times a year (including when daylight savings happens). With this timer, you just set the exact dusk time for your area once using the time listed in the local paper, and it calculates it for every day thereafter, including taking care of the daylight savings time change. I will never have to touch it again, except to change the battery infrequently. Despite some negative reviews, I found it quite easy to program, although the instructions could have been written a bit better (everything is crammed onto a single sheet of paper). I also wasn't able to figure out from the online information what type of sockets it has and where they are located before buying it (there are two 3 pin sockets located on the bottom of the unit). As long as it has a long life-time, it is an excellent unit and well priced. 12/15/16 update: I had this originally as 5 stars and bought a second one after I reviewed it. However, after 1 1/2 years the first one I received stopped working properly so I am considerably less impressed. $20 isn't so much to spend, but I am disappointed. I think I will build a small enclosure for the new one since I think it is possible that water got in through the battery compartment in the back during a heavy rain (it seems a bit damp in there). In any event, given the short life I am now down to 3 stars.

An excellent timer.
This unit is the best of any timer I've used. It is clearly organised, the programming is easy and straightforward, and it is very dependable. I have no issues with it at all.
