Night Vision_Equinox Z2 Monocular

The scope is well-built with a solid feel to it. Bushnell didn't scrimp on quality of parts with this scope. It's super easy to use right out of the box; the controls are pretty intuitive. The two buttons on the left control power and capture images, and the "arrow pad" on the right controls the rest. The port for the USB plug and the Micro SD card are above the eyepiece/battery door. The lens cap it held on by a pretty decent tether. The worst part was the waiting; I had to wait for darkness like a little kid waiting for Christmas Morning. I finally had to take a nap and wait for darkness. This thing is pretty amazing in the dark; with the built in illuminator (850nm), I was able to get useful illumination out to 286 yards-at that point I could see the people on the walking path. With an external focused illuminator (940nm), I could see the trees at the end of the block 560 yards away-not necessarily enough to see detail, but enough to see the silhouettes of people walking on the sidewalk. The WiFi is a cool feature, but I haven't played with it enough to form an iron-clad opinion one way or the other. Battery life is abysmal,especially with WiFi and the internal illumination set to max brightness. Fortunately, with the latest firmware you can power this scope via USB.

It does what it says. A flashlight is better, but the green filter makes it creepy.

It's good quality, especially compared to the other piece of garbage "night vision cameras" out there. The battery drains quickly. Even with regular AA batteries, the camera dies in minutes. It's not as cool as it might seem. It's very zoomed in, and can't be unzoomed. That's my biggest gripe with it, and the battery life of course. It's cool to be able to see anything from 100-500 meters/yards away in pitch black conditions, but other than that, it's not really worth it. I got it for $100, so I'm not too mad over it, but if I payed the full $400, I would be pissed.

Night vision is decent, especially with the light on. Doesn`t save time/date and settings after you power off so I disabled the timestamp on videos. The biggest and killer flaw is the power source. It will chew through 4 AA rechargeables in less than 15 min. And worse, it won`t recharge via USB it will actually discharge the batteries as the unit comes on while on USB power! It is useless unless you are next to a wall USB power source.

This is basically a CMOS digital camera with a switchable IR filter and IR-friendly optics. It is pretty sensitive to near-IR but not far-IR (i.e., heat) so it does not directly replace a true image intensifier. The image sensor has 1080p resolution but the eyepiece display is much coarser; it looks more like 640x480. The eyepiece diopter adjustment is very limited; I am 66 with age-related presbyopia and I could not get it to fully accomodate when wearing glasses calibrated for distance vision. The battery cap is difficult to replace: it has a strong spring force that must be overcome while at the same time attempting to start a fine thread and it tends to crossthread unless you are very careful. I bought the Z2 with the suggested NiMH rechargeable cells; these seem to work okay although the battery indicator never shows full charge since their voltage is lower than alkaline cells. There is no provision for an external power source. The IR illuminator is very powerful even at the low setting and uses the battery up quickly. The WiFi function works reasonably well with the Android and iOS apps although there is a 1/2 second lag with the live view; that makes focusing difficult. The processor locked up on a few occasions when trying to transfer a picture via WiFi or USB. Sometimes when attempting to record video to an empty, freshly formatted SD Card it would fail and required a power cycle to work again.

Performs better than advertised ! The image in the night vision mode is superb , so clear that I can read a persons lips while they are talking on a moonless night . I'm buying another one for my boss .

This Bushnell monocular (I bought the 6x50 model) will provide real easy identification of objects in total darkness. Using the inbuilt IR I was viewing possums among my pine trees at over 200 yards. Then I turned off the internal IR and mounted the monocular on a tripod. I shone my Coyote Cannon 850 nm IR torch onto the target area and the viewfinder was lit up like daylight - so much that I could make out details well beyond 600 yards in total darkness! This required a little digital zoom of around 1.5 times. I recommend this Bushnell monocular, either as a stand alone, or combined with a powerful IR torch for those extra long range observations. Only minor downside is battery life.

Yes, i did read the manual, and followed it to the letter. This device is highly impractical. The field of vision, even when fully zoomed out, is far too narrow to get any sense of what's around you. It's like looking through a long tube. There should have been an ability to zoom out for perspective or spotting where an animal may be, and then zoom in for more detail. Also, the image is very fuzzy, no matter how you adjust the diopter and then the objective lens. By the way, if you think you are going to do star gazing with this, forget it - there us far too little resolution for that. I sent the product back.

I bought these as a gift for mu husband and tested them first to be sure I was giving a quality product. These don't disappoint! I'm surprised by the clarity from such a long distance. He's going to love them since he loves looking at wildlife but it gets dark in our area very early. Seeing an owl in a tree late at night is very exciting!

good but chews through batteries like crazy

Batteries last 15 min. Quite grainy. Narrow field of view. Focussing not exactly smooth or slick. Heavy. Buttons way too small for a device meant to be used in the dark by touch alone. Not significant enough improvement on the monoculars you can get for £45 that are easier and lighter to use and have a longer battery life. Can't really recommend it....must be better for the price out there.
