GREETING CARD MESSAGE - “The Dragonfly Story Once upon a time in a shallow pond lived some happy water bugs. Every now and then one of them would climb the lily stalk then disappear, never to return. The others were concerned the water bugs were leaving because they weren’t happy. The colony watched with disappointment, then promised each other that if any remaining water bugs were inclined to go up the stem, they would return with an explanation of why they left and where they went. Every water bug promised. One spring day, not long after, a water bug climbed up the stem and landed on the lily pad above the water and fell a. He was startled when he awoke to see that his body had transformed and grew four silver wings. The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from his new body. He moved his wings and found himself above the water. He had become a dragonfly. He landed gently on the lily pad and peered through the water to the bottom of the pond where he saw his old friends. The dragonfly remembered the promise, yet he was unable to penetrate the surface of the water and return. Even if he were able, his friends would no longer recognize him in his new body. He decided to wait until his friends became dragonflies. He knew that they would understand then, and their answers would be revealed with their transformation. He continued to visit the lily pad until he was reunited with each friend that found their way." Adapted from The Dragonfly Story written by Doris Stickney.
