Q: Can you run short distances in them? (I only do 15 minutes a day.)

They would certainly be comfortable enough for running, but I haven't tried. I'd be worried about tripping up, I don't think it would be as stable as trainers, as your toes are not supported, but comfort-wise I see no reason why not.

Q: Are these good for hiking up coastal paths and rough terrain? Do they have good grip?

They are very robust.. so yes, a good hiking sandal but of course remember they don’t have full foot coverage so twigs etc will not be prevented from entering the sandal
